A reading from the play Decline Of The Gardener. This is the opening monologue.
Joe, a wealthy businessman, employs Stan to tend to his private gardens whilst at the same time engaging in a strange affair with Stan's wife, Jane. During his sadistic visits he satisfies Jane's addiction to a substance which is not exactly a drug. Despite his relationship with her, Joe seems to maintain a friendship with Stan; but the brooding, uneasy stability of their arrangements is threatened by Jane's increasing desire to provoke the two men into conflict.
